Summary of Experience

Mr. van Soestbergen has worked in the greenhouse gas arena for almost twenty years. He started in 1990 by designing Carbon Zero Fuel strategies for a major Japanese oil company, and funded tree planting in Asia by selling ‘eco-car’ stickers to offset vehicles. He has since worked on database solutions to track emission activities in large organizations and facilitated one of the first international transactions of verified emission reductions.  He is a frequent lecturer on climate change adaptation strategies, greenhouse gas accounting, and carbon portfolio management.

Mr. van Soestbergen is the Co-founder of the International Carbon Bank and Exchange, Inc., an organization dedicated to providing individuals and organizations the ability manage emissions information in a bank-like environment. He also organized first issuance of Emission Reduction Credits (ERC) to a LEED certified building, is the Co-founder of the Florida Renewable Resource Conservation and Development Council, an organization dedicated to conservation and development of bio-based renewable energy solutions and is the former coordinator of the University of Florida Climate Neutrality Working Group, a group charged with devising a neutrality strategy for entity with 13,000 staff, 45,000 students, 17 million square feet of building space, 4,000 vehicles and intensive research activities.

Former reviewer of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) Implementation Guide, which defines ground rules for 700+ institutions aiming to achieve climate neutrality.

Co-inventor of Method and System of Banking and Exchanging Emission Reduction Credits, the first United States Patent for an end-to-end custody framework for greenhouse gas reductions.

Joint developer of ClimateSafe, the first federally recognized Certification Mark for greenhouse gas neutral products and services.

Organized first issuance of Emission Reduction Credits (ERC) to a LEED-certified building.
